Default Generator ???

Looks like the power is going to be out for an extended amount of time. Have a Generac GP 8000 with the better engine. My question is how long can I run the Gen with out giving it a rest?

Thanks
Mueller

Unlike people, machines don't care how long you run them. That motor probably has a life expectancy of 2,000 hours or so before it needs rebuilt. It doesn't care if they are 2,000 in a row or 100 per year for 20 years.

As long as it has gas, oil, and cooling air and is run within design limits, it should act like the Eveready Bunny. You might want to shut it down every 50 or 100 hrs for routine maintenance, check the manual.

Generac engines are better the 2,000 hours till rebuild. I would at least say it's more in line with 4,000 hours. It is categorized as an industrial engine and has a separate counterbalancer shaft.

Go for 100 years.
Let us know how many years that it runs before it quits.

Running it is far better than letting it collect dust for 3 years then hoping it still works.

sounds like everyone already answered your questions but what the heck......Keep that gas flowing and dont worry about it.... I ran my honda for 3 days stright powering a fridge, freezer, tv, and some other small items during a power outage from a storm w 80-90 mph winds...

It was just a guess. My neighbor has an older Generac that has a Briggs and Stratton engine, hence the 2,000 estimate.
