Default NW Ontario Ice Out Prospects

Given last year's early ice out, I am wondering how the winter has progressed this year and the likelihood of a typical early May ice out this spring.

The data for this link is not yet shown (perhaps because no ice is out yet). It is what I use.

We are estimating a regular ice out this spring in NW Ontario. While there have been frigid temperatures the heavy snow has insulated the lakes, keeping the ice to a manageable level. So mid April, perhaps a little later is what we are looking at.

The snow however will pump up water levels which will really help us out as last year they were low.

Fisherman Ted. Has all of NWO had heavy snow this winter? I fish close to Pickle Lake.

We have been fishing a number of lakes just north of vermilion bay since first ice in dec,ice thickness has been steadily increasing, there is a foot and a half to two feet of snow on the on top of the ice depending on how the wind has blown, there 3 ft high drifts in some areas, ice is in and around 24" to 30" in some areas with frozen slush on the top layer.ice will leave when it wants to,all depends on weather, but i predict it will be gone on the walleye opener.conditions for fishing and sledding is just fantastic right now
