2012 ranger 621 help

I have a 2012 621 with a 250 pro xs the problem Im having is it wont go over 5400 rpms Im running a 21 rev 4 partner has same boat but 23 tempest motors are in 3rd hole when trimed up steering is extremly hard and feels like boat wont trim high enough both boats are running the same but different props any ideas

Maybe drop to a 19P Rev 4 which should bring up the RPM's would be my thought. Contact Propman @ Brainerd Props site sponsor here on WC for his feedback and/or assistance as he knows his props. He also has a try before you buy program that might interest you.

boat should go faster then 52-54 mph will changing prop get boat out of water and more speed I know the 215 triton is running 58-60 with 21 rev 4

These are anywhere from 55 to 61 MPH boats with 300s on them. I think the 21P Rev is too much wheel for a 250 on that big rig. A 19P Rev should put you at 5800.

The 215 is a faster boat than the 621.

Waleye 7 what altitude are you running? I'm running a 215x with a 250 pro xs and a 19 pitch rev 4 at 4000 ft and getting 5900 rpms. i run a 21 pitch rev 4 at 2000 ft and get 5950 rpms and 61 mph. 56.5 mph with the 19 pitch. the 215 hull does seem to be a little faster than the 621. Lift the motor one more notch and see where your rpms go and then try a 19 pitch. The 250 pro xs loves to run at the top of its rpm limits, 5900 seems to be the sweet spot. Also try running no more than midgrade gas. I know that seems weird but the motor is rated for a minimum 87 and Don at european marine (the merc guru) recommended midgrade to get the cylinder temp up. He said the pro xs was engineered to run on the lower octane. I switched from 92 to midgrade and saw almost 200 more rpms and the boat ran stronger. This applies only to the newer pro xs motors.

My buddy has your same boat/motor. I dont know what prop he is running but he said he gets 54mph with a tourny load and 2 guys. Best speed empty was 57mph.

Personally based off what you have said about your rev4 and buddies 23p Tempest I would try a 21p Tempest.

I'm not sure you'll get much more out of a 621 with a 250? How much would you like to spend for 1-2 more?

I've heard from my friends running Rangers and Mercs - the Tempest is a better prop for the ProXS, the Rev 4 works better with the Verado.

Is break in complete?

You're close. No doubt you could find a little more - but from here to a couple miles per hour opens the checkbook fairly wide.
