Scott Duncan

Juls:     "Thanks for joining us for our weekly ""Fireside Chat"" with tonight's host...Walleye Pro, Scott Duncan! Scott, why don't you start us off by telling everyone a little bit about your walleye background...."

Scott Duncan:     Hello everybody. Been knocking around local tourneys for 13 years or so and this past year finally fished my first full year as a pro

Juls:     you're an investor/owner of the AIM circuit...how did you do this past year fishing with them?

Scott Duncan:     # of the 4 I did OK and I thought I fished well Green Bay was my worst one. The fish totally tricked me

Juls:     Feel free to get your questions in guys....remember there are no dumb questions...only dumb ones are the ones that don't get asked....

lileye:     Join Room

Triton HWA:     What is your preferred method Scott

Juls:     what were you doing that first week of July on Green Bay and what would you do differently looking back on it?

Scott Duncan:     "I did learn a ton through-out the year though. I hadn't fished a pro derby since 03, so I was a little rusty"

Scott Duncan:     I always like live bait rigging the best but whatever the walleye want I'll do

dougcoley:     Join Room

Triton HWA:     Spinners or jigs?

Juls:     hi Doug

Scott Duncan:     My fav live bait rigging is a #8 octopus with a light Lindy rig with 12' leader and leach

Scott Duncan:     I do love pitching 1/8 oz jigs as well

Triton HWA:     when you say light? You talking 1/16th?

Scott Duncan:     "Depends on depth, I'll use anywhere from 1/4 - 1/2 on Lindy weight but nothing lighter"

walleyewife:     Join Room

Juls:     hello again walleyewife

Scott Duncan:     Hey walleyewife

chainwalleyes:     Join Room

walleyewife:     Hey Scott

Juls:     "Scott, do you run the Charlie Chain circuit or just fish them?"

Scott Duncan:     "I see we have some Chain folks on here. I promised dates for the Charlie chain derbys, wanna see em?"

chainwalleyes:     yes

walleyewife:     Were ready!

Juls:     let me get a pencil so I can add it to the Tourney Finder...:)

Juls:     ok..go...:)

dougcoley:     Join Room

Scott Duncan:     "Haling family runs the tourney, I am more or less a consultant. We based it off the Chain Walleye series which was started by my wife and I"

Scott Duncan:     Here are the dates

Scott Duncan:     "4/18, 5,23, 6,20, 9,12 and a 2 day championship 10/9 and 10/10"

Juls:     do all of those events all take place on the Fox Chain?

Scott Duncan:     They are all on the fox chain. Blast off out of C Haling & Sons marina

.Steve-Ind.:     Join Room

walleye_69:     R U fishing all the AIM tournaments next year

Juls:     ok...just needed the info for the TF

Scott Duncan:     "Yes, I'll be fishing all 5 events. It cant get here soon enough"

Scott Duncan:     We'll have all the Charlie Chain info on the website before the weekend is over

Juls:     they announced 3....the winnie one was tba...what did they announce for that one?

Juls:     "Saginaw Bay, Green Bay, Akaska, and??"

Scott Duncan:     Well we have some details to iron out for the final announcement. The Brimley tourney should be official soon as well

Juls:     4-Oct

Juls:     What are your top 5 lakes to fish? What are your favs?

Juls:     and why?

Scott Duncan:     We are all looking forward to the Brimley Derby. More cash and all artificial. Should be a blast

chainwalleyes:     What are the chances of all AIM events going to artificial only?

Scott Duncan:     "Top 5 , Any great Lakes, Winnebago Chain, Mille lacs, Missouri river system then the Fox Chain"

Juls:     45 minutes to go everyone....please ask questions...there must be something you want to ask...yes?

Scott Duncan:     That has been discussed at great length but at this time we will have an all artificial trial at Brimley.

Scott Duncan:     "All artificial will eventually happen I believe, Maybe not for a few years but I expect it to happen"

chainwalleyes:     Do you use stinger hook on your jigs?

SteveS:     Are you going to fish just the AIM events or are you going to fish some FLW?

Scott Duncan:     "No, I have tried them on the Illinois river with limited success, I still will work on using them if I feel it may help"

walleyewife:     What has been the spectators response to AIM's new format of CRR?

Scott Duncan:     Only AIM and Charlie Chain. I haven't fished FLW since it was RCL

Juls:     you're a Lund/Merc guy aren't you Scott?

Juls:     or?

Scott Duncan:     The spectators love it. Especially the spectators on the water fishing near us. They get an opportunity to catch what we release

chainwalleyes:     What are your favorite walleye lakes on Fox Chain?

Scott Duncan:     "I am a Lund guy. I'm still running my 03 1900SE. Still a kick A boat and goes anywhere I ask it to take me. You may see me in a new on this year though, we are talking."

Scott Duncan:     "Actually I like the river sections the best. Especially the North, all no wake without all the wacko boaters"

chainwalleyes:     "Do you ever fish the deep north lakes, Chane and Catherine?"

chainwall:     How about the live streaming of the AIM events - how have they been received?

walleyewife:     I have to say that I really love being able to watch the weigh-in's on AIM's website. Tommy Skarlis was very entertaining!

Scott Duncan:     According to my wife the streaming is real good. I don't get to see it cuz I'm there fishing

Scott Duncan:     "Oh yeah, Tommy is a character. I got to know him a lot better this year and he is like that all the time. very high energy character"

chainwalleyes:     What are your favorite methods to fish on the Chain?

Scott Duncan:     I believe we will have a few more live cameras rolling for the final day this year. Good live on water stuff expected

Bigfoot:     Join Room

Scott Duncan:     "I love to 3 way on the chain. Play to my strengths, put rigging rods in my wifes hands and it's money"

Juls:     :)

Juls:     "so, your whole family likes to fish?"

walleyewife:     "Yes, sometimes a woman's touch is all those 'eyes' need :)"

Scott Duncan:     "Yep, the girls get a kick out of it. I would like to test my 11 year old in a full day tourney this year. She can be very patient"

Scott Duncan:     She usually knocks one a year off with the net though:)

Juls:     let us know how that goes for you/her...:)

Juls:     1/2 hour to go everyone...get your questions in

Scott Duncan:     Can you imagine if I beat these local nuts with my 11 year old daughter in the boat...they'll never here the end of it

Juls:     hahahah...always like to see that

Juls:     what are you doing in the off season this year?

eyestopper:     Join Room

Juls:     hi eyestopper

eyestopper:     hello

eyestopper:     what are we talking about?

chainwalleyes:     do you ever do well on Channel and Cathrine?

Scott Duncan:     "Goofin around with the kids, workin, making plans for AIM and Charlie Chain. Takin care of all our reservations for my computer inept partners:)"

Scott Duncan:     I haven't spent a lot of time fishing walleye on the north lakes. I will be peelin largemouth during wed tourneys up there though

walleyewife:     What would you suggest for an angler who wants to get into pro fishing? Fish as an amateur for a season first or dive right in?

Juls:     eyestopper....Scott Duncan is our host for the hour...7 to 8pm central time. This is his chat until the top of the hour. He's a Walleye Pro willing to share his knowledge with you.....ask him anything you want. :)

chainwalleyes:     When you prefish do you like to cover a lot of water or focus on figuring out few areas?

Scott Duncan:     I think you can gain a lot by fishing as a co angler. But there is no substitute for doing it in your own boat. I would spend a season doing the MWC first. Ya learn an awful lot fishing MWC

Scott Duncan:     I go out with a plan but sometimes you throw that plan away and throttle up and run 40 miles. Depends what the voices in my head are saying

Triton HWA:     lol

lileye:     are those voices always right

chainwalleyes:     are you doing a lot of trolling or more casting?

Juls:     he's typing...be patient...:)

Scott Duncan:     Sometimes those voices burn a lot of fuel. sometimes they work out. I fished the akaska with full intentions of a 25 mile run. Spots died on me and I went pre-fishing 25 miles further south. Found a nice are to myself and had a nice comeback late.

Scott Duncan:     In any of the four events this year I didn't cast one time during the tourneys. Ended up using crawlers in all 4 events.

dougcoley:     "how do you go about choosing, type, color, size of crank bait for different bodies of water"

chainwalleyes:     crawlers on spinners and bottom bouncers?

Scott Duncan:     The voices Doug the voices. I've been around enough to have my fav patterns and colors. Keep it simple to start and go from there

Scott Duncan:     "Saginaw was in line with harness', Green bay same program, Akaska slow death with bouncers from the bow mount, Winnie small blade harness with rock runners"

chainwalleyes:     do you ever pull spinners or 'slow death' on the Fox Chain?

Juls:     what are your favorite patterns and colors then?

Scott Duncan:     "Just started playin with the slow death on the chain. it works, don't tell anyone."

eyestopper:     You ever try the dakota blades? Do they spin well at low speed?

Scott Duncan:     "I like high finish Solid gold blades with contrasting beads. I try and get chartreuse out everywhere I go, and firetiger patterns."

Scott Duncan:     I don't think I have tried them. So many choices out there. You get info overload so I try and stay simple

chainwalleyes:     what speeds are you using for spinners and what for slow death?

Scott Duncan:     "Slow death very slow, .6- .8. Pulled spinners at various speeds from .6 - 1.5 throughout the year. Gotta experiment and let the fish talk to ya"

chainwalleyes:     have you had any success with gulp?

Scott Duncan:     The funniest situation I've had this year was pulling the spinners through the weeds. Found good weeds at Sag and Winnie. They are in there with the pike and when they hit they hit hard. they are competing for food in there

Scott Duncan:     I've used the gulp crawlers quite a bit this year and had good success. Especially the gulp that looks like a real crawler

chainwalleyes:     gulp minnows?

Scott Duncan:     Have played with the gulp minnows just a little bit. usually try them pitching the shore targeting the spawning males

Juls:     12 minutes to go....get your questions in before we have to end our Fireside Chat with Scott...:)

chainwalleyes:     what line do you use for pitching jigs?

Scott Duncan:     Hi vis fireline. 6 or 8 lb test

chainwalleyes:     do you think that in artificial only events trolling will dominate even more than it does now?

Scott Duncan:     I don't know that it dominates. but for sure trolling will be key in an all artificial.

Scott Duncan:     Watched Tommy and Gary dominate in the river at the Sag event with Jigging rods in hand.

chainwalleyes:     do you use mostly round head jigs or something else?

Scott Duncan:     Any more AIM questions...curiosity??

dougcoley:     how did your co anglers enjoy the aim tournaments this year?

kev:     Join Room

Juls:     hi Kev

Scott Duncan:     I know this will be read again so I want to make sure I invite any and all to come on down to the Fox Chain and fish a Charlie Chain event. We have more fun than you can handle

Scott Duncan:     Every co-angler I had was a person with a positive attitude and helped me out tremendously. First thing I do is make them fell at home. We all had a blast this year. Always have a ton of laughs

chainwalleyes:     "I hope AIM will grow bigger this year but it's hard in these tough times, what do you think?"

Scott Duncan:     "Juls, me and my fellow aim pro's appreciate everything you do for us anglers and our circuits. Next time I see ya I'll cover your ice cubes with Crown"

Juls:     "Thanks for coming tonight everyone, and a special thanks to our guest host, Scott Duncan for taking time out of his busy schedule to join us here. Well done Scott...clap clap clap clap clap clap clap! Have a Happy New Year and best of luck to you in the 2010 season!"

Triton HWA:     Thanks Scott

Juls:     "SWEET Scott...I'll take you up on that...and, thanks for the kind words. :)"

Triton HWA:     Thanks Juls

Scott Duncan:     I'm expecting a 30 - 50%growth in AIM competitors this year. We WILL have a great season and will be around for a long time

Juls:     that would be big time growth....keep your fingers crossed...:)

chainwalleyes:     "Thanks Scott, have a great season, and Happy New Year everyone!"

SteveS:     Thanks Scott!

Juls:     Happy New Year! :)
